We are looking for an inspiring, high-profile Director to lead on our work with marginalised communities, helping us to grow our impact nationally and internationally. The Director will take over the operational and academic responsibilities from the Founder, Dr. Theo Gavrielides who has acted as the Institute's Director since its inception. To download the full Job Description and Person Specification click here THE CONTEXT The IARS International Institute has a charitable mission to give everyone a chance to forge a safer, fairer and more inclusive society. We achieve our charitable aims by producing evidence-based solutions to current social problems, sharing best practice and by supporting young people and the community to shape decision making. We aspire to be a leader in creating new knowledge and forming public and expert opinion internationally. Over 85% of the Institute’s work takes the form of world class academic inputs (e.g. peer reviewed articles, ebooks, reports, consultation responses, policy papers, conference presentations, conference papers). We deliver our charitable mission: By empowering marginalised individuals of our society through accredited training, educational programmes, mentoring and one-to-one support; By acting as an international network of NGOS bringing together people and ideas to share best practice and engage in debates on current social problems By carrying out action research and evaluation that is independent, credible, peer-reviewed, user-led, focused and current By supporting individuals and grass roots organisations to carry out their own initiatives to shape decision-making and society, and by helping them to maximise their social impact By being an authoritative, independent and evidence-based voice on current social policy matters. THE ROLE The Director will work with the Board and the Founder, Professor Gavrielides, to ensure that the Institute delivers its charitable objects, and continues to pursue its stated vision and mission. The role is split into two key areas (a) Academic leadership (b) Chief Operating Officer. The Director will be line managed by the collective body of the Board and be a member of the Finance committee and the HR committee. The Academic Leadership role Since its inception in 2001, IARS has covered three areas of work (a) human rights and equality (b) young people (c) criminal justice. The DO will be responsible in overseeing the quality and research direction of IARS’ current programmes, while driving new ideas and projects. Chief Operating Officer role The Director will act as IARS' Chief Executive Officer: (a) Company Secretary and governance (b) Human Resources (c) Financial & Funding Management. BENEFITS Permanent contract (6-month probation) 3 days per week for the first 2 months working alongside the Director, and 4 days per week thereafter; a working day is 7.5 hours. £40,000 - £58,000 depending on experience 24 days annual leave plus the Bank Holiday (pro rated) 5.5% pension contribution. Stage 3: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview during the week 2nd September. We will be looking to appoint soon thereafter. There will be a handover period working side by side with Professor Gavrielides for up to 2 months. During this time, the successful candidate will be working up to three days a week. After the period, the post is offered on a 4 dpw basis.
