We recognise that starting a career in human rights and international development is challenging, and we are offering this 12-month traineeship to support the next generation of business and human rights advocates. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants from lower-income backgrounds who would otherwise struggle to get the experience required to step into a human rights career.

About the role
Working in our busy, high-performing communications team, you’ll support our global digital presence. During your traineeship you will:
- Support our social media: Maintain and grow the Resource Centre’s significant social media presence, from daily posting, content design and creation, through to engagement, listening and analytics.
- Support our digital redesign: Prepare data and draft content to move to our new digital platform, collate and organise user feedback, support internal training.
- Help us research: Take on short research projects to support the communications team and inform our messages.
- Provide administrative and logistical support: Supporting events, writing minutes, creating contact lists, data input, publishing on our website and media monitoring.
You’ll get exposure to a global human rights organisation with digital communications at its core. You’ll be allocated a manager who will regularly review how you’re getting on and provide opportunities to maximise your learning and experience with us.
You should have a strong interest in international human rights issues, and the ability to concisely communicate and demystify large amounts of complex information. You’ll be familiar with various methods of digital communication and keen to put these skills to use. You should be self-motivated and able to work independently. An enthusiasm to get stuck in on project work and adapt to a rapidly-changing environment is key.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an active and demonstrable passion for human rights;
- Is aware of the nuances between different social networks and how-to tailor messages for different audiences;
- Is analytically minded, able to work with data and summarise complex information;
- Is tech-savvy and curious about good websites and why they are effective;
- Can motivate themselves and prioritise their work, both independently and when proactively contributing in projects teams;
- Is fluent in English with good attention to detail.
It’s an added bonus if you:
- Are educated to university level in a communications-related (advertising, PR, media, marketing) or human rights-related subject;
- Have used a website content management system before;
- Actively maintain an interest in writing (whether you keep a personal blog, have an engaged social following, contribute to a news site or enjoy crafting essays)
- Have an eye for design (we produce a lot of documents, web pages, and graphics – experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is a big plus);
- Speak another language (any of our website’s eight languages would be useful - between our London staff alone we speak more than 10!).
