CAMFED (the Campaign for Female Education) is an international non-profit organisation tackling poverty and inequality by supporting marginalised girls to go to school and succeed, and empowering young women to step up as leaders of change. Since 1993, CAMFED’s innovative education programmes in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and Malawi have directly supported more than 3.3 million students to attend primary and secondary school, and more than 5.7 million children have benefited from an improved learning environment.
Technology and robust, integrated systems for programme and financial management are at the core of our accountability to our clients, individual girls, and to the donors who support our programme. CAMFED is a recognised innovator in the use of community-led mobile monitoring to track young people’s welfare and progress, and is exploring the use of technology platforms to network young people in rural Africa. In 2016 CAMFED was awarded the FinancialForce Customer Excellence Award, in recognition of the impact our internal technology and process transformation has had on girls in rural Africa - and donors - in terms of transparency, accountability and scalability. The OECD recently recognised CAMFED for best practice in taking development innovation to scale.
