Job Profile

We are looking for a creative and exceptional digital designer who can come up with new and innovative design solutions on various channels and inspire our target audience to be inspired to take action through visual-story telling.

Job Purpose

CAFOD is reaching out to new audiences with an aspirational proposition that no one should be beyond reach of the love and care they need to flourish.

You’ll be someone with a passion for producing design on different digital and print channels, and you’ll have an excellent understanding of the latest trends and cutting-edge design. Alongside other designers, developers, visual content producers and writers, you will bring creative flair to design briefs and create effective campaign assets on social media, email and web platforms, as well as print, ensuring that all your output is on-brand and in-line with our vision, mission and values. You will have an excellent understanding of web, mobile and graphic design.

Job Scope

The post holder will work in the Digital Comms team, as part of the Communications Group.  You will work alongside our front-end developer and two lead designers to invigorate our integrated communications offer, in order to grow our income and increase engagement. 

Accountability

The post holder will be line managed by Head of Digital Communications and work closely with members of the Creative Content Team.

Key Responsibilities

Designing output for digital (and some print) channels

  • Work on a range of design projects, both online and offline to support CAFOD’s integrated communications recruitments.
  • Designing digital assets and products for digital fundraising including display ads, brand and advocacy campaigns, as well as websites and other interactive content.
  • Interpret creative briefs, working with internal clients to ensure campaigns are single minded, effective for the audience and comply with our brand guidelines.
  • Providing design solutions that are effective at reaching our target audience on different social channels, particularly Facebook and Instagram.
  • Deliver design solutions for print outputs including adverts, regular giving updates and work as part of a team on CAFOD’s multi-channel fundraising campaigns
  • Create new article types, interactives, long reads, embeds, designs, animations and more to bring our stories to life. You’ll be keen to learn and experiment and find the best possible outcome.
  • Curate our digital visuals to ensure a consistent brand narrative and help us push our brand to the limit.
  • Driven to continuously improve your designs, using analytic research to get a deeper understanding of how your designs are working and adapt where necessary.
  • Work as part of a team, collaborating regularly with other designers, developers, writers, photographers, and film-makers to share ideas and progress. You must be able to article the rationale behind your design decisions to others
  • Find new ways for CAFOD to tell visual stories across a range of platforms

Job-specific competencies

  1. Excellent understanding of best practices for visual communications.
  2. Proven interest in digital design and technology.
  3. Excellent design skills across a range of platforms, from print to desktop to mobile-responsive design.
  4. Proven ability to produce targeted, on-brand content to tight deadlines.
  5. Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
  6. Experience with Adobe Acrobat.
  7. Experience with mockup tools for websites and mobile apps.
  8. Knowledge of HTML/CSS.
  9. Knowledge of digital asset production workflows for websites, apps, and digital content.

Desirable Criteria

  1. You will have an understanding of UI/UX particularly on mobile
  2. Design centric approach to creating assets across the organisation: including wireframes and card sorts.
  3. Knowledge of project management approaches including Agile working.
  4. Experience with wireframing and prototyping tools for websites and mobile apps.
  5. Experience with motion graphics for digital videos, and AfterEffects and Premiere.
