Contract type:  6-month fixed term (maternity cover) Hours per week:  35 As a British Red Cross  Media Officer , you'll thrive on telling stories and creating opportunities to champion the work of one of the most influential humanitarian organisations in the world. We help people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We mobilise human kindness to support people in the most vulnerable moments of their lives, both in the UK and internationally.  Our volunteers and staff respond to need and influence on key issues that affect some of the most vulnerable people on the planet. You'll support media coverage on topics ranging from loneliness, the challenges facing health and social care, domestic emergencies, terror attacks and the refugee crisis. Your stories will also help us attract volunteers, donors and supporters for the work we do on emergencies, refugees, natural disasters, ongoing conflicts and hunger. We are looking for an outstanding, flexible individual with excellent media experience who can hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment, with support from a great team. About the role As a Media Officer, you will work to the Head of News and contribute to all aspects of a busy press office, dealing with the media, the public, volunteers, partners and stakeholders.  You will work with social media, PR and advocacy colleagues to deliver time sensitive media coverage on both fast-paced world events. You'll also help drive the news agenda with proactive content on our key issues. This is a fascinating frontline role that ensures that the difference the British Red Cross makes in the world is understood by the public, opinion formers and influencers. Meet the team The role of Media Officer sits within the Communications and Advocacy Directorate, which tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people's lives. Our goal is to ensure that both externally and internally people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis. What we are looking for With a sound working knowledge of media within the UK and a strong understanding of what makes a good story and where to pitch it, candidates should have: Experience of working as a media officer or journalist Excellent written and verbal communications skills The ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines Excellent journalist contacts and relationship building skills An understanding of social media as a news tool An understanding of the role of media in integrated, communications planning The ability to work well as part of a dynamic team and to forge and maintain a variety of good working relationships, internally and externally. We are looking for an experienced, talented individual to join us as a Multimedia Manager. You'll be passionate about bringing human stories to life through multimedia content and have a proven ability to lead a busy multimedia function to deliver highly engaging creative content that connects with our key audiences and work across multi-channel communications.  What you will be doing  As Multimedia Manager you will lead the team in the creation of content for different audiences to drive brand awareness, relevance and supporter engagement, and work across a variety of briefs and flagship integrated campaigns - everything from developing the end of year supporter film, to supporting the production of DRTV adverts, to commissioning photography shoots for our services.  You'll negotiate stakeholder demands whilst maintaining great working relationships and ensure that brilliant content is delivered on time and to budget, through excellent multimedia production skills and solid processes and workflows.  Meet the team  Reporting to the Head of Content, you'll join our content team and be part of our award-winning communications and advocacy directorate.  Your teammates will be our talented and friendly in-house set of multimedia producers, story gatherers, designers, copywriter and creative production support, you'll work closely with the social media, media and fundraising team and more broadly this is a wide-reaching role and you'll collaborate closely with colleagues from across the organisation.  What we are looking for  To succeed in the role you'll thrive in a busy environment, enjoy managing a talented team and have a proven track record in producing engaging multimedia content across different audiences and multiple platforms.  Your excellent film producer/project management skills (ideally gained through working with NGO / non-profit clients), demonstrable ability to develop and implement production processes and your experience in commissioning freelancers and external production agencies, will ensure the delivery of the large volume of outstanding multimedia content.  Closing date for applications is 23:59 on 30th June 2019 with interviews scheduled to take place on the 10th and 11th July 2019.  We offer a wide range of staff benefits, these include: 36 days holiday (including Bank Holidays) Option to buy an extra 5 days annual leave Up to 6% contributory pension Flexible working policy A little bit more about us The British Red Cross help anyone, anywhere in the UK; get the support they need if crisis strikes.
