About Reprieve Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999 by Clive Stafford Smith. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and secret prisons and state-sanctioned assassinations in the context of the so-called "war on terror". We work for the most disenfranchised people in society, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. Thus, we promote and protect the rights of those facing the death penalty and those who are the victims of extreme human rights abuses committed in the context of the so-called "war on terror" (WOT), with a focus on secret prisons and state-sanctioned assassinations. Underpinning Reprieve’s strategic focus is the notion that countries such as the UK and US hold themselves out as shining examples of democratic societies that respect the rule of law and human rights, and therefore should be held to exacting standards in terms of how they respond to acts or allegations of terrorism and murder. Their responses have ripple effects worldwide, and are frequently used to justify the continuation of the death penalty, extrajudicial killing, torture, rendition and unlawful detention by countries ranging from ‘aspiring exemplars’ to ‘worst offenders’. Reprieve’s main office is based in London, UK. Reprieve also supports full time Reprieve Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and advocates in different countries. Reprieve works with partners in jurisdictions all over the world, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders. The Role We’re looking for a Campaigns and Digital Officer to join an impactful and creative team at Reprieve, alongside another Campaigns and Digital Officer and the Head of Digital. Together, this team is responsible for engaging and growing Reprieve’s supporter base to take action against and generate income for our work against the death penalty, and state-sanctioned extreme rights abuses committed in the context of the so-called War on Terror. Reprieve has invested in the growth and capacity of this team, ensuring we have the tools and expertise needed to be at the forefront of digital campaigning and fundraising. You will be joining at a very exciting time. The team has already significantly grown Reprieve’s supporter list since GDPR as well as its income from supporters. The team brought in over 20% of the charity’s total income in 2018. We are now working to develop that even further and are aiming to bring in over 35% of Reprieve’s income by the end of 2021 through a mixture of regular and one-off donations. This target is shared across the team and allows us to focus on creative, engaging, and impactful campaigns that inspire Reprieve’s supporters. The post holder will be an integral part of the campaigns and digital team and you will be confident in thinking creatively about how it engages supporters on difficult issues, how it attracts new supporters to Reprieve’s work, and how it fundraises to meet the 35% target by 2021. You will be a positive person and have a great ability to multitask, a willingness to muck in on all tasks big and small, humility and a passion for Reprieve’s work. Even if you don’t always know the answer, you will be capable of proactively obtaining it from the Head of Digital. Reporting to the Head of Digital, the Campaigns and Digital Officer will be responsible for relevant areas of work listed below. This is an office-based role and your presence is important during core office hours. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency from time to time. Length and salary The role is a full-time fixed term contract for 12 months duration, with the possibility to extend. It will be based in Reprieve’s London office during core office hours. The annual salary is £35,000 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. Our pay is transparent and non-negotiable .
